"Ready to Ship" the commutative work of ECA graduate year, the work stretched to lighting, unique furniture and even emotional design. my work carried on from my graduate work and developed into a complete outdoor range including a garden bench, large plant pots and even bird houses. All of the pieces were Incorporated my key material Mulch with the bench being moulded and sculpted by hand to create an angular design.

Devine Upholstery

I have been collaborating with Devine Upholstery on my 'Outcast' project. I commissioned them to manufacture the removable cushion for my chair. This is the second time I have worked with Devine Upholstery, the first time being my chaise. The company is a local Edinburgh resource who are always up for a challenge, they have always delivered on great quality and speed.

Outcast - First rendering

This is a first render at a very early stage in my design process. I was experimenting with the idea of using a contrasting material on points where the user would sit and touch. I later decided as the material was so intesting, I should limit the design and focus on the form of the chair.

These models are were made early on in the prototype stage, as creating a mould for a entire chair was a lot more complicated as I first anticipated. the model helped to calculate angles and exactly how the mould would go together.

These sketches were my initial ideas for my Honors project. I wanted to explore under utilised materials and the one which I chose to develop was mulch. I also wanted to push the boundries in terms of form and creating something which was exciting and innovative.

Homes & Interiors Scotland Exhibition '08

This is my chaise on exhibition at the Homes & Interiors Exhibition at the SECC in Glasgow. This was the first piece I have sold, it went to a couple from the west of Scotland who are keen collectors of new designs.

This video was filmed during the Bute @ ECA exhibition which took place in Edinburgh during the design festival '08. The exhbition featured my chaise long that I designed during my 3rd year at ECA.

These are photographs of my finished chaise long which was on exhibition in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. This was the first piece I sold and it went to a lovely couple from the North of Scotland who are keen collecters of new designers work. It is upholstered in stunning fabric by Bute Fabrics.

Bute - Chaise

This chaise long is a development of my Reid sofa and a collaboration with Bute fabrics. I decided to create a single seater, based on the same idea as platforms and added the cushion which can be attach to different areas of the chaise. These are my final renders which show how the sofa will be contructed.

The sofa design was for a competition run by Reid. My design was based on the concept of platforms however, I still wanted to retain a cosy feel therefore I chose a traditional fabric.

Vitra Competition

This was another external competition during my 3rd year. This time the brief was set by leading furniture company, Vitra. The brief was to design a unique sofa to fir into their bespoke collection. The use of unusual materials and processes were encouraged. I was inspired by the elegance and shape of old Riviera speed boats. I adapted the form of these stunning, luxury boats to fit a sofa. I also used the materials that could be found on these boats, such as teak, carbon fiber and of course luxury leather to create this sofa. I was very pleased with the outcome of this brief and could imagine it in a luxury apartment in the city or in a public space such as a museum or art gallery.

Rapid Prototype - "Trapped"

These are a few concept images for a rapid prototyping project during my 3rd year at ECA. This design is for a stool which would be made from frosted semi-transparent plastic thus concealing the face and hand within. The trapped features would only be visible when the light in the stool was illuminated. The light inside the stool would cast a shadow of the face and hands onto the surrounding walls and ceiling. This was a very short project to introduce students to the RP process. These images were modelled using Rhinoceros and rendered using Flamingo. The photographs are of the final stool which was Rapid Prototyped.

Bombay Sapphire - Vapour

This was from a competition run by Bombay Sapphire to design a new, unique glass.

My inspiration for ‘vapour’ came from the extensive description Bombay provides whilst describing how they blend the botanics with their spirit, by vapour filtration, making their gin unique. I wanted my design to look like it was a vapour; surrounding the martini glass, with the blue areas in the lip escaping the traditional cylindrical rim. I also thought about the clientele, and how they would interact with the glass, I wanted the glass to be very tall, and delicate looking, from certain sides so that the vapour idea would be conveyed but also so that when the customer picked it up they would have the feeling of how fragile the process is. They would respect it and take care, just as Bombay do when making the gin.
